A casino is seen by many a a fun night out with friends, a sociable evening to catch up and play games with an allocated budget. However, for a few, gambling can become a problem .

At Horizons we want all members and visitors to enjoy their visit and to have a responsible and fun trip set within their limits.

We have a range of tools to help you control your gambling such as machine limits and limiting visits to the casino*
Please speak to a manager at the casino who will be able to discuss all the options with you.
*Based on registered visits at reception.

Affordability is crucial
Gambling should be a fun and crucial aspect of making sure that it stays fun is ensuring you can afford to gamble. Look into your disposable and discretionary income and after you’ve paid your living, food, travel and all other living costs, you will be able to assess with the funds you have left how much you can afford to gamble with.

Ask yourself these questions
Be honest with yourself, if you think that your gambling may be getting out of control ask the following questions:

  • Have you put at risk important or significant relationships, educational studies, a job or your career because of gambling?
  • Do you chase losses by continuing, or quickly returning, to gamble when on a losing streak?
  • When you win, do you have a strong desire to return and win more?
  • Do you ever gamble until you have completely run out of money?
  • Have you lied, stolen or borrowed to get money for gambling?
  • Are you reluctant to spend gambling money on anything else?
  • Do you ever gamble for longer than you had planned?
  • Do you ever gamble to escape worries, trouble, disappointment or frustration?
  • Do you feel depressed or suicidal because of your gambling?
  • Are you in debt because of gambling?
  • Have you ever sold your own or your family’s possessions to get money to gamble or to pay gambling debts?

The more you answer yes, the greater the likelihood of a serious gambling problem.
